The Met Office has blamed man-made climate change for Britain’s hottest day of the year!
On Tuesday the mercury soared to 34.7C in central London on Tuesday, the highest anywhere in Britain in 2025 so far.
According to the Met Office it was “virtually certain” that the high summer temperatures were caused by global warming.
Strange how it starts to get so hot during the summer months.
MSN reports: But it admitted that it had “not conducted formal climate attribution studies into June 2025’s two heatwaves” before making the claim.
“While we’ve not conducted formal climate attribution studies into June 2025’s two heat waves, past studies have shown it is virtually certain that human influence has increased the occurrence and intensity of extreme heat events such as this,” said Amy Doherty, a Met Office climate scientist.
“Numerous climate attribution studies have shown that human influence increased the chance that specific extreme heat events would occur, such as the summer of 2018 and July 2022.”
The 34.7C recorded in St James’s Park, Westminster, is the highest anywhere in Britain this year.
Gritters were deployed on the roads to stop them melting as temperatures soared.
Central Bedfordshire council said the grit would “protect the road surface” and provide drivers with “extra grip”.
In a statement the council added: “Some parts of Central Bedfordshire are experiencing very high road surface temperatures.
“When this happens, tarmac can begin to soften, which may lead to surface damage. To prevent this, we’re sending out gritters to spread a fine layer of crushed stone. This helps protect the road surface and provides extra grip for vehicles.”
