Russia calls for ‘de-escalation’ in Syria

Russia on Friday called for “de-escalation” in Syria after dozens were killed in some of the worst violence since Bashar al-Assad’s fall.

“We call on all authoritative Syrian leaders who can influence the development of the situation on the ground to do their utmost to put an end to the bloodshed as soon as possible,” Russia’s foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said. Moscow was ready to “coordinate efforts closely with foreign partners to de-escalate the situation”, she added.
