The outgoing US President is claiming credit for the fall of Damascus to a coalition of armed groups, including jihadists from Hayat Tahrir-al-Sham (HTS).
Joe Biden claimed that Washington had weakened the supporters of former Syrian President Bashar Assad.
Hailing the fall of the Assad regime in Syria during a speech Sunday, Biden said the U.S. would strive to facilitate a peaceful transfer of power in the country.
He said: “After 13 years of civil war in Syria, more than half a century of brutal authoritarian rule by Bashar al-Assad and his father before him, rebel forces have forced Assad to resign his office, flee the country…At long last the Assad regime has fallen”
InfoWars reports: Biden called Assad’s fall after decades of rule a “fundamental act of justice,” but cautioned the “moment of risk and uncertainty” as NATO-backed Islamist forces have taken control of the country.
“It’s a moment of historic opportunity for the long-suffering people of Syria to build a better future for their proud country,” he said. “It’s also a moment of risk and uncertainty. As we turn to the question of what comes next, the United States will work with our partners and the stakeholders in Syria to help them seize an opportunity to manage the risk.”
Despite the fact the leader of the Turkey-backed Hayat Tahrir al-Sham rebel group is linked to ISIS and Al-Qaeda, Biden promised ISIS would not be allowed to exploit the power vacuum in Syria and regain a foothold in the collapsed region.
“We’re clear-eyed about the fact that ISIS will try to take advantage of the new vacuum to reestablish its capability and create a safe haven. We will not let that happen,” Biden said, adding that U.S. forces conducted a dozen precision air strikes in Syria on Sunday targeting ISIS camps and operatives.
Syria’s deposed leader Bashar al-Assad fled Syria on Saturday as the terrorist groups seized control of Damascus, and reports have surfaced that he and his family made it safely to Moscow and have been granted asylum.
Assad’s swift downfall marks the end of the Syria’s civil war that began in 2011 in response to anti-government protests that stemmed from the CIA-backed “Arab Spring” in neighboring Middle East countries.
The fall of the Syrian regime also tracks with the U.S.’s ambitious imperial plan to take over the Middle East for Israel, as outlined by U.S. Army General Wesley Clark in 2007:
