May Day in Germany: Protests by left-wing extremists and feminist freaks

The queer-feminist demo entitled "Take back the night" started in Friedrichshain at Boxhagener Platz on Tuesday evening. Things remained largely peaceful until the end.

The demonstration was supposed to start at 7:30 p.m., but it started considerably later. Slogan of the demonstration: "For the destruction of the patriarchy".

Rockets were later fired from the train, and other left-wing groups greeted the train on Rigaer Street from rooftops with burning Bengalos.

According to the BZ, at the end of the demonstration police officers were occasionally pelted with eggs.

When the demonstration reached Warschauer Strasse, the organizers broke it up prematurely.

According to police reports, about 2,800 people took part. Police spokeswoman Anja Dierschke said the dispersal was announced very quickly. She could not say whether there had been any arrests.

More marches are expected later in the day.
